Customers say:"Came with a group of friends from work. Hadn't been here before. We prearranged to use their skittle alley. It was years since I had been to a beer and skittles. We had such a fun night." Customers say : "We each had the Sunday roast and it was lovely. Tasty hot food that was very much needed after a wedding party the previous evening. The pub is typical of a traditional style, no loud music or sports and we were given a warm greeting and great service. Highly recommended but best not leave it to chance and book in advance."

Marston’s alone draws more than one million gallons of water a week from wells in the Horninglow district of the town.

It was created in 1838 by Peter Walker, a Liverpool brewer, who came to Burton to brew pale ale and responded to consumer demand for beer free of yeasty dregs. Another one of Burton's historic pubs, this traditional watering hole is described as sitting "stubbornly" on Cross Street since it was used to store Bass Imperial Stout in the 1800s. Wainwright is one of the company's best-selling beers and is brewed at the Banks's Brewery in Wolverhampton. It is a 4.1% ABV golden ale named in honour of the famous fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright. Marston's acquired the brand from Thwaites in 2015. In 2016, the Thwaites branding was dropped and the beer was rebranded "The golden beer". Customers say:"We have just returned for one of the excellent food nights. Tapas night this time. All excellent home cooked food at a reasonable price. We keep returning again and again. Pie night next.... can't wait !"You’ve also got the other beers in the Marston’s line. Their EPA beer is very similar. Or, if you enjoy a stronger beer with a more hoppy aroma, you’ve got their Old Empire IPA which is absolutely stunning. The town is still home some of the nation's biggest brewers, including Marston's Brewery on Shobnall Road (makers of the famous Pedigree beer) and Molson Coors (which produces lagers like Carling and Coors Light). Burton is also the birthplace of Bass beer, and thirsty travellers can still learn all about the legendary Bass family at The National Brewery Centre, located on Horninglow Street in the town.
