About this deal

Before the war we would say the United States are, afterwards and until now it's been the United States is, though today it appears we have only been in a long ceasefire.

He is sent out against impossible armies who vastly outnumber him, and through sheer strategic genius, brings his Emperor a glorious victory.Shaara also credits the forgotten Buford with being a major reason as to why the Union was able to seize the high ground. The last two sections are easily the most engaging, and once you get to that point in the book you will plow through it. Yet, it is also a poignant reminder of the humanity in us all as this author brings his characters to life. An excellent rendering of the days of the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania by author, Michael Shaara.

It is worth thinking about how such studies differ in intent and content from the novelistic portrayal of the Battle of Gettysburg in "The Killer Angels. His novel about the Battle of Gettysburg, The Killer Angels, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. Goodbye To All That' was Graves fascinating autobiography, much of it devoted to his life-shaping experiences during WWI. Eventually promoted to the rank of brigadier general, Ulysses Grant chose Chamberlain to command the Union troops at the surrender ceremony. Of course, I do not know his situation, and I do not want him to engage a superior force, but I do want him to take that hill, if he thinks practicable.Jeff Shaara continued his father’s legacy with a series of centuries-spanning New York Times bestsellers.

It's based on the Battle of Gettysburg and looks at the action through the eyes of the significant characters of the different stages of the short but bloody battle. Chamberlain’s defense of Little Round Top on the second day of the battle of Gettysburg is excellent writing, and will keep the reader completely in the moment. I had never visited Gettysburg, knew almost nothing about that battle before I read the book, but here it all came alive. The trilogy even touched on the years before the war how some soldiers who were friends found themselves as enemies with devestating results such as the tragic friendship between Winfield Scott Hancock and Lew Armistead who avoid facing each other until the fateful battle of Gettysburg. The prose gets a bit flowery at times, but Shaara’s preface notes that he actually toned down the verbose style of the time. I was truly saddened by the incredible loss of life due to the mistakes of the priveleged few, the generals.
