Combed cotton refers to cotton fabric that has been treated to remove all the short fibers during the manufacturing process, leaving a very smooth fabric.

Upland cotton is native to the Americas but is now the most commonly grown cotton in the world. Its fibers are not as long as Pima or Egyptian cotton, so it’s not as soft as those varieties. Most cotton sheets, unless they specify otherwise, are made of Upland cotton, especially if they are bargain-priced.

What cotton is best for bed sheets?

Before printing off the Linen or Voile fabric sheets please iron the fabric sheets on both sides first. This ensures the fabric sheets are fresh before being put through the printer. The Silk, Cotton , iron-on cotton fabric sheets do not need to be ironed first. Make sure you place the fabric sheets straight in your printer. If for any reason they catch on the sides of the printer you can use your finger to gently encourage the correct feed direction. If you have any further problems feeding the fabric through your printer you can attach and fold over a strip of masking tape along the leading edge to make the fabric sheet more secure. In most cases this is not necessary. As such, flannelette is a firm favourite for bed sheets as it is warm and snug, perfect for keeping you warm at night. This makes it ideal for winter bed linens as the weather cools, while still retaining the breathable qualities of regular cotton. 2. Polycotton percale

Egyptian cotton is the most luxurious variety. This is is the choice if you want super-soft, high-quality bed sheets. Grown in the warm, dry climates of North Africa, Egyptian cotton has extra-long fibers that create the softest, smoothest fabric. Thread count refers to the number of yarns in a square inch of fabric, but it shouldn't be a major factor when deciding which cooling sheets to buy. In Good Housekeeping evaluations, thread count did not correlate with performance, but when shopping for 100% cotton, single ply weaves, our tests found that 300 to 500 is ideal. Percale refers to a closely woven cotton fabric with a plain weave.
